VLMK Engineering + Design is excited to announce the opening of its new office in Phoenix, Arizona. This marks a significant milestone for the company as it establishes its first presence within the vibrant state of Arizona.
The strategic decision to open an office in Phoenix underscores VLMK’s commitment to serving clients and supporting projects in the thriving Arizona market, including the cities of Phoenix and Tucson. Over the years, VLMK has played a pivotal role in the development of more than 1 million square feet of commercial and light industrial properties within the state, partnering with esteemed clients such as Schnitzer Properties.
The new office is strategically located in the Scottsdale Summit Business Center in North Scottsdale. The space boasts an open-concept floor plan, fostering a collaborative work environment conducive to innovation and growth. Furthermore, this prime Airpark property is owned and operated by Schnitzer Properties.
The Phoenix office will be managed by senior principals, Kevin Kaplan and Jason Sahlin, who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the region. This expansion is a testament to VLMK’s dedication to its clients and team members, with the aim of providing enhanced convenience and accessibility to better serve the local market.

ARIZONA PROJECTS
Queen Creek Commerce Center, Chandler, Arizona
Strategically located in the fast-growing Chandler Airport Submarket, the Queen Creek Commerce Center is a Class A 560,352 square foot light industrial project featuring two-buildings. VLMK Engineering + Design provided planning, architectural design, structural engineering, permitting, construction phase services, and tenant improvement planning to the property owner, Schnitzer Properties.
The two buildings were fully leased to three tenants prior to the completion of the shell construction and VLMK was able to provide tenant improvement design assistance to NEHP, Inc. / Total Facility Solutions, Intel, and Horsepower Automotive Group.
Super Bowl XLIX and Super Bowl LVII Temporary Structures, State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona
Working with Populous Architecture and the National Football League, VLMK is the structural engineer of record for several temporary broadcast booths, cable bridges, video platforms, and tent structures for the most watched annual sporting event in the world, Super Bowl XLIX and Super Bowl LVII in State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Beyond big sporting events, we provide structural engineering for various temporary tent structures for events, such as fashion shows, construction sites, weddings, shopping centers, sporting events, conventions and more in various cities all over the United States.
Tucson Airport Distribution Center – Building C, Tucson, Arizona
Completed this year, Tucson Airport Distribution Center – Building C is located at 3350 East Medina Road, Tucson, AZ. The Building C addition is a single story, 99,000 square foot concrete tilt-up featuring 30-foot clear heights and space for up to six potential tenants. VLMK Engineering + Design provided full design services, which included the planning, design, engineering, permitting, and construction oversight of this project to the property owner, Schnitzer Properties.
VLMK worked with the tenant Imperial Brown, a leading manufacturer of custom walk-in coolers and freezers, to facilitate construction of both the shell building and tenant improvement.
Tucson Airport Center – Building A, Tucson, Arizona
The Tucson Airport Center project is a 16.6-acre industrial development for Schnitzer Properties. Completed in late 2022, the single building is 229,320 square feet divided into multi-tenant spaces for a variety of light industrial warehousing and distribution activities. The building features several upscale architectural elements including reveals, canopies, and architectural cornices.
VLMK Engineering + Design provided planning, civil, architectural, structural, permitting, and construction phase services. In addition to the shell project, Schnitzer Properties also requested our assistance to complete several tenant improvement plans that resulted in nearly a 100% lease up of the project shortly after shell completion.
dd’s Discounts, Multiple locations throughout Arizona
Working with MCG Architecture, VLMK provides structural engineering services for dd’s Discounts tenant improvement projects. Our services include a structural survey of existing conditions, schematic design, construction documents, and construction administration for multiple stores throughout the state and country.
The structural scope typically includes facade/canopy renovations, dock and dock canopy additions, storefront alterations, vestibule additions, and roof-top mounted HVAC additions.
