VLMK has provided engineering services for 17 new stores over seven years in five states. Most stores were built using tilt-up concrete and open web steel joists. Several stores were built around specific themes. VLMK developed the structural drawing prototype. Each themed store required a different approach to address the special design details.
The Roseville, California, store was built with an old west theme, complete with a train "crashing" through a wall. Other unique challenges included the Renton, Washington location which utilized a structural slab supported by 80 feet deep auger cast piles.
The Webster, Texas, store featured a Star Trek space mission theme. It was built to resemble a space ship with curved walls and curved metal façade entrances. This particular store was built on piles due to poor soil conditions, typical in Texas.
