City Bible Church
Portland, OR
When City Bible Church was looking for a new home, they decided to invest in an old ice arena. The existing building housed two ice arenas: one was converted into a 46,000 square foot church, and the other remains an ice arena. Half of the existing space and zamboni garage were converted into a 600 seat sanctuary, with the remaining area converted into a two-story space housing classrooms and offices. The church also now features a foyer, audio visual platforms, riser and stage, and stadium seating. The stadium seating utilized steel stud bearing walls and concrete over steel floor deck. A seismic upgrade was performed with special attention given to roof to wall anchorage. The existing long span roof trusses were also analyzed to accommodate cameras, sound system, speakers, roof mounted HVAC units, and other audio visual equipment. Most interior walls in the existing locker rooms were removed and replaced with steel framing.
