Duke's Casino
Sparks, NV
The renovation and new addition to Duke's Casino provides a fresh façade and character to a well known landmark. A complete renovation and structural upgrade was undertaken to the existing 13,000 square foot building. Originally constructed in the early 1930s, the single-story building has a wood roof and exterior concrete bearing walls. The roof framing is diagonal planked wood roof decking over 2x12 wood joists. Joists span between large concrete arches, creating a "barrel vaulted" shape. In addition to two new CMU exit facilities and a restroom, a steel framed elevated catwalk was added, connecting the two existing interior mezzanines. A large ornamental aluminum framed armature was added at the main entrance, providing a unique look to the building façade.
